Connectors

Omnicost in your assistant

Connect Omnicost to Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP client and look up construction unit prices, each one with its source and date.

Before you start

You need an Omnicost account with an API key on the Free or Pro plan. There is no anonymous access: every query is tied to your account.

Server details

Server URL
https://omnicost.com/api/mcp
Transport
Streamable HTTP
Authentication
OAuth with your Omnicost account, or an API key in the Authorization header
Scopes requested
catalog:readcatalog:search

From Claude

Works on claude.ai and in the desktop app. Menu names change often, so here is what to look for.

  1. Open Claude's settings and find the connectors section.
  2. Add a custom connector and paste the server URL.
  3. Claude opens the Omnicost sign-in page. Sign in with your account and approve the catalog:read and catalog:search scopes.
  4. Turn the connector on in a conversation and try a question like the example.

From ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, custom connectors are added from settings, under apps or connectors. Depending on your plan, you may need to turn on developer mode first.

  1. In ChatGPT settings, go to the apps or connectors section and create a new one.
  2. Give it a name, such as Omnicost, and paste the server URL.
  3. Pick OAuth as the authentication method. ChatGPT takes you to the Omnicost sign-in page, where you approve catalog:read and catalog:search.
  4. In the chat, add the connector from the tools menu and ask your question.

From other MCP clients

Claude Code, Cursor, Grok and any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP connect with the same URL. If the client supports OAuth, the first time it opens the Omnicost sign-in page in your browser.

Claude Code, from the terminal

claude mcp add --transport http omnicost https://omnicost.com/api/mcp

Cursor, in mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "omnicost": {
      "url": "https://omnicost.com/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}

With an API key, for clients without OAuth

If your client does not support OAuth, use an API key from your organization. Create it in the Omnicost dashboard, in the MCP section, and send it with every request in this header:

Authorization: Bearer <your-api-key>

The same examples as above, with the key:

claude mcp add --transport http omnicost https://omnicost.com/api/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer <your-api-key>"
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "omnicost": {
      "url": "https://omnicost.com/api/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer <your-api-key>"
      }
    }
  }
}

Treat the key like a password. If it leaks, revoke it from the dashboard and create a new one.

Available tools

All of them are read-only: they query the Omnicost catalog and never change anything.

  • search_catalog

    Finds line items from a description, such as "C25 concrete m³", and returns the closest matches with their median price and how many suppliers report it. You can filter by country.

  • get_item

    Shows one line item in detail: its suppliers, each price with its source and date, and the price history.

  • list_categories

    Returns the catalog's category tree, a good place to start exploring.

  • get_decomposition

    Shows what a line item is made of, with its material, labor and machinery components per unit.

What data there is by country

  • Spain

    Our widest coverage. Line items from public tenders, supplier catalogs and BC3/FIEBDC-3 files, many with a breakdown into materials, labor and machinery.

  • United States

    Material prices and line items from public tenders and supplier catalogs.

  • European Union

    Prices from public tenders in other EU countries.

  • Argentina (limited)

    A few hundred line items for now.

Every price says where it came from and when it was observed. If a figure is old, the date will tell you.

Removing access

You can disconnect Omnicost at any time from your assistant. You can also revoke access from Omnicost, in your account settings.
